The admin console - a tour
What the admin console is, how head office opens it, and what each item in the dark sidebar does.
Updated
The admin console is where head office looks after the policies that families and staff read in KAL Hub. You write and edit policies, publish them, see who read what, and change the Hub's settings. It is for head office only. Nobody else can see it or open it.
Open the console
- Sign in to KAL Hub with your KAL Portal password, as you normally do. See staff sign-in.
- Press Admin in the header. On a wide screen it is a gear icon with the word Admin, near your name. On a phone or a narrow window, press the round button with your initial, then press Admin. The home page also shows an outlined Admin button under the main links.
- The page Open the policy console appears. It says who you are signed in as.
- Press Enter the console. The button changes to Opening…, then the list of policies appears.
Example: Casey Example works in head office. Casey signs in, presses Admin, reads the page that says "You are signed in as [email protected] (admin)", and presses Enter the console.

Questions
Who can use the console?
Only people who sign in with a KAL Portal account that has the head office (admin) role. The Hub checks your role with the Portal again on every console page. If your role is taken away, the console stops working for you on your next click.
Why does the console show "page not found" instead of "not allowed"?
That is deliberate. The Hub gives the same answer for the console as for any address that does not exist, so it does not confirm that a console is there.
Does opening the console change anything?
No. Opening it only lets you see the console's pages. Nothing changes until you save, publish or change a setting.
I pressed Leave console. Am I signed out of the Hub?
No. You can still read policies as a staff member. Press Admin to come back.
If something goes wrong
- "Your admin session has ended" with "For safety, the admin console signs you out after 8 hours." Your eight-hour admin session is over. Press Open the admin console again, then Enter the console.
- A console page says page not found: your portal role is not head office, or the Hub could not confirm it. If there is no Admin button, ask head office to check your Portal role.
- You press Enter the console and are sent to the home page: the Hub could not confirm you as head office. Log out, sign in again and try once more. If it keeps happening, contact head office.
